For me, baking became a hobby at a very young age. Growing up on a farm in Iowa, I was exposed to ingredients that were organic before organic was the trend. In the summertime, our days were spent entertaining ourselves on the family farm. We had a large garden, a strawberry patch, and many varieties of fruit trees. Desserts in our house began with what was ripe. Fresh strawberry milkshakes in the early summer led to homemade pies in the fall. As an Iowa farm kid eating apples and pears right from the tree, I took this early glimpse of the "farm to table" idea completely for granted. In 2001, I moved to the east coast and I slowly rediscovered my love for the kitchen. My passion for baking from scratch has grown into The Rustic Baking Company now located in Swampscott, MA.
